Impulse Instinct Intuition

Looking to define our separation
We call it instinct
Voiding the sentient nature of life forms

A bird lifts from atop trees
A measured effort, without brain power
Simply gaining energy potential

We see a crow
Harnessing thermals
Rising to the clouds

Weeping elephants
Grieve over a lost calf
Refusing to leave it behind

Have you heard the clicks
At the the bow?
Dolphin playing in the undertow

Our ability to think together
Build together
Is unique, beautiful, terrifying, destructive

Should we not return to some measured instinct?
That reasonable expectation
Of action-to-consequence ratio

The earth is one.

Orange Vanilla

It tastes like heat
Waking you up
In the uncomfortable closeness
Of summer

Patched knees on my pants
Smell of sweaty boyhood
Hands dirty and cut
Breaking bottles in the alley

We learned about fighting
When to run
And other times
There were no places to run

But that treat
So cold
Orange chemical sweetness outside
Sugary vanilla explosion inside

It was worth the walk
Four blocks to the market
A few pennies
For a few minutes

This photo reminds me of the 50/50 ice cream bars of my youth.

An Ancient One

Walk softly, the quail are rummaging
Beneath your limbs, brittle strands of hair

An ocean of air, caresses you softly
And ten thousand voices call my name

How many have come before me?
Asking as the child with silver hair

There have been many, some still lie at my feet
You hear them, I know you do

I do.

Will spring come soon?
Sooner than you think my love.
Sooner than you think.

Lesser Than What?

A finch
With a name
Thrust on it
Like blame

I am not a birder. I do love to observe birds. Unlike what most photographers say I should do when I make photos of birds; I really don’t care much what species it is, nor do I feel the need to inform the viewer of the species ID. While making photographs of people, do we see the photographer note “male homo sapien?”
My approach is science apostacy….ok. Finding out the species ID can be fun so it will be included sometimes. Usually, I am just enjoying the moment when there is something beautiful for me to record…..that’s it.
As indicated, I do not adhere to anyone’s rules or philosophies for photo creation. There are enough chains in this world.
