Take-Away

Or take-out, or fast-food.
Sometimes the order comes and we realize it is just too much food.
Half of it ends up in the fridge.

For this osprey, it was pure instinct to catch whatever he saw as a “safe size.” It makes sense that if the fish was too large, the raptor would leave it alone. As it was, he dove and clenched his prey. After several tries, he realized he could not exit the water with this sized fish still flailing underneath. Some fifteen seconds later, after disabling the mullet, he ascended.
The power of these birds is impressive.

Evolution of the moment

Or if you have trouble falling asleep:

For the Joy

Response to recent discussions involving the artistic approach, staying true to your walk and the value, or perceived worthlessness of an artist’s efforts.

We question and agonize,
Over detail, workflow and philosophy.
Am I honest?
Will they catch an error?
Are my intentions acceptable?
Is this plagiarizing?
Or worse,
Why is there no response?

Is this work futile?
Is my messaging too cryptic?
I love this piece,
It brings me peace.
It tells the world
That things get whirled.

It is my child
Born of the wild.
Yes, yes, that’s it.
I remember.
The process.
The drive to go.
To set up and execute
All those things
I have been training for.

And when I’m out
Out and about.
Communing here
Observing there.
Gaining insights
To life and beauty.
And walking away,
Filled.

With Joy.

Yes, that’s it.

Small Obsession

If not for the sake of the journey
There is little to be found in the exercise
Of expanding the mind artistically

What would be most difficult
Becomes a perceived mountain to climb

And when it becomes apparent
That perfection is a lie
We search for the next mountain to climb

What will we find next?

Are muses real?  They haunt, taunt and flaunt. Revealing my weaknesses like a storefront mannequin.
I don’t believe anything I just wrote. Do I?

Homecoming

Relative quiet is the harbor
Away from heightened awareness
Every muscle
Is on alert
Ready to shift
To a world of constant change

No one speaks
Amid the waft of
Cigarettes and overcooked coffee
Diesel and motor-drone give way
Stow the gear
Complete the logs

Anticipation whelms every thought
Dispatch the catch
A good haul, at the right price
Tonight’s dinner eaten at a table
That does not move
The mind continues to pitch and roll
